PAINTING FOR MY LIVING ROOM
We’re finally to the point in our home renovation where I can start dreaming of some things to fill up the walls (as if I hadn’t been doing that already). But at the very least, we have furniture where it’s going to live for a while, fixtures that have made their permanent home, and an overall aesthetic that can help guide the kinds of stories I want to tell on the blank walls.
Immediately I had in mind a scene from our trip to California in May 2022 where we took an escape camper van up the coast. One of our stops was this scene in Big Sur called McWay Falls. It’s the most beautiful overlook with all of my favorite things - rocky terrain, wildflowers, pine trees, and a WATERFALL. My goal was to make this come alive in our living room because as it stands, our living room looks quite art gallery-esque. We have a vaulted ceiling, and open white walls that we painted Simply White from Behr. Needless to say - it could stand to get some personality.
I have other prized decor pieces in this downstairs that I want to try to tie into this painting. Like the green color of these beautiful, green, Joybird chairs, the deep Equilibrium Green of the ceiling in our kitchen and dining room area, and lastly, the dusty pink color from these mid-century modern lights above our kitchen island.
With all of this in mind - I head to hobby lobby, picked up a 48”x48” canvas, and set out to make one of my largest scale paintings yet.
